If you are the type of person that enjoys
spectacular views with a little excitement thrown in then The
Banff Gondola is perfect for you. The trip is taken in a totally enclosed gondola and the exciting journey takes around eight
minutes to climb the two thousand feet to the top
of Sulphur Mountain. But make sure you rug up as the trip can be
very cold. The gondola rises up over dense snow covered
trees and provides a spectacular view of the Banff Fairmont Springs Hotel in the
valley below. The mountain peak itself is a towering seven
and a half thousand feet in altitude and offers panoramic views of
the surrounding snow capped Rocky Mountains. Mother Nature has excelled herself here with moss covered trees draped in snow and snowcapped mountains that march off into
the distance. From the top of the mountain visitors can
choose from many activities including a one mile
walk along an interpretive walkway that explains
the fascinating history of the region. The walk takes visitors to the historic Sanson’s
Peak Meteorological Station, but be aware the path can be difficult for young children and seniors due to the
many stairs, especially in icy conditions. There are many options on the mountain for the more adventurous outdoor types but if you just need to warm up, why not relax in the restaurant where refreshments and great meals are served. The views from the observation deck perched
above the restaurant are simply stunning with mountain vistas stretching
in every direction as far as the eye can see. The Banff Gondola is a perfect place to spend a couple of hours enjoying the crisp
clean air and amazing landscapes that go on and on forever.
