Jessica Dineen, Young Tourism Leader

I’m the operations manager for Noosa
River Holiday Park based on the Sunshine Coast well I’m currently responsible for
overseeing not only the day-to-day running of the business of guest
relations reservations and complaint handling but also the back of house
operations and staffing marketing systems WHS and yield management I love
working in the tourism industry because I get to meet people from all walks of
life Noosa is considered a first stop for many international guests so I’ve
met people from Germany Switzerland Netherlands Brazil Israel and even
Estonia and I love seeing the relationship between international and
our domestic markets because it’s not really a bond that you see in any other
industry so my parents have been in the tourism industry for over 30 years and I
was literally born into it I grew up understanding and being involved in our
family business and I knew it was something I wanted to pursue as a career
I went to school and studied tourism through TAFE and graduated with
certificate 3 and then went on to university to gain an associate degree
in business majoring in international tourism so working in Holiday Park
industry has given me the opportunity to attend conferences and trade shows both
nationally and internationally and I’m also an active member in our local
tourism and industry associations so frequently attend regional meetings and
networking events I feel the Holiday Park industry is quite open and sharing
even though our businesses compete in a sense there’s always that support and
encouragement amongst a group so the advice I would give to a young person
wanting to start a career in tourism would be not to be put off so much by a
job selection criteria or previous work experience requirements if you find a
role and or a sector that you’re interested in go for it
be passionate back yourself
