  1. So I have ten pens currently inked up and in active use. I've become a fan of color coding my work things over the past few years, so when I got into FPs, I needed to keep that up. Five TWSBI Ecos (Black, Red, Blue, Green, Orange) with matching inks, as well as a Lamy Al-Star purple with matching ink. The other four are not matched, charcoal Safari with a different purple (fairly permanent match here, unless I end up getting a purple pen that matches the ink color), and three random matches, Metropolitan with grey, broad Vista with Kon-Peki, and some Jinhao pen with Diamine Sunset.
On top of those, I also have four pens inked at home that I don't actively use much… A turquoise Al-Star with matching ink (for a story I'm writing for every now and then), a couple pens with cartridges popped in so… no taking those out, and a TWSBI GO Stub with purple at the moment, but really whatever I feel like writing in a stub with.
Last time I traveled, I took the same ten pens that I take to work. Granted, I think I only actually used one or two, because I don't color code as much in my personal life (or journal nearly as much), but I like to have the option if I feel like it. Got a plane trip coming up in August, and I'm thinking of just inking up those ten again to the max to minimize air and then just rolling with that. Maybe bring a couple of sample vials to refill the Lamys because those converters run out of ink a lot faster than the TWSBIs.

  2. I'm still new to fountain pens so finding my feet so not set on a specific pen. I have 12 pens of which 8 are inked… 4 Lamys with different ink and different nibs, a Twsbi Vac 700R, Pen BBS 309, Opus 88 Clear demo and Leonardo Momento Zero… all different inks.

  3. i keep 6 pens inked up, i'm a civil engineering student (lots of notes and multi page math problems). 2 in black 2 in blue 1 orange for noting screw ups and a green for noting fixes. i have been known to use all of them on napkin style tech drawings to identify different aspects clearly, just before i go build the thing of doodles. the most resent doodle is a possible solution to Eye dropper filled pens tendency to burp when they get low. hoping to print a prototype and test soon. What would be a good (common and cheap) nib/ size?

  4. I have about 3-5 pens for me and 2-3 pens for my wife all inked at the same time. Once I get past 3 pens it can be difficult to remember what ink I used months later, so I started a currently inked journal!

  5. Hay Dew & Adrianne . I typically will have 3-4 pens inked up , the forth is generally the one waiting to be cleaned . two for journaling and one for letter writing . Lexington Grey i agree is a great ink , not only does it look great but its permanent so great for envelopes and postcards.

  6. i have 4 inked up…and since i work in law enforcement….i wear the TWSBI GO smokey black inked up in waterman deep blue….or MONT BLANC ink…i forgot the name of it but it smells like whiskey… the brown ink…i love that color….

  7. I have between 10-15 inked up and use the Giologieo ox blood 24 for these pens and I have a piece of paper in the case with the pen and ink details. This enables me to check the ink flow and keep a record for when I clean the pens. I always have at least one pen, usually a shark, inked with Noodler’s no feather so I can write on the cheap paper if there is nothing else. All my other pens are kept in Monteverde 36 pen slot but might have to find some other system as I have three of them and will need another soon..

  9. I have 5 always inked up at a time. One new pen for every work day. I then swap these out for 5 new pens at the first of the month. I manage to then rotate through my pen collection three times a year.

  10. 36 pens inked and all in constant rotation. I travel with five and have no EDC as my place of employment is too fast paced for the care required for when using a FP.

  11. I’m with ya DREW!! I LOVE WINTER. I guess it’s convenient I live in a state shaped like a mitten. I have 2 of those cases in o blood and LOVE THEM. I have anywhere from 8 to 23 pens inked up and use them for journaling, practicing my handwriting, letter writing and the rock your hand writing challenge.

  12. when I travel, I take a Delfonics medium utility pouch. Has everything from watercoloring stuff to pens and inks. I only really ink 3-4 pens per week, and if it's a sample I'm trying out, I just put the little bottle in a plastic pouch, in case of spills. I want a FP case, but I've yet to see one I really like

  13. I have an oxblood 3 pen case that I use regularly. Plus I have 3-5 at any time inked and in various TN pen loops that also get used on a regular basis.

  14. I don't wear shorts, either, Drew. Like yourself, I'm fair-complected. I'm afraid if I wore short I'd have to warn people that if they looked at my white legs it would damage their eyes like looking into the sun. No bueno.

  15. I have 7 pens inked at the moment. 1 that stays at the office, and 6 that I rotate through with 2 in my pocket at any time.

  16. My inked pens keep expanding, so I may have to rein it in. I try to travel with about six inked pens: five are in my 3-Pen Nock holder (Sinclair?) and the other one in my shirt pocket. I also carry a cheap Bic Clic Stic ballpoint and a Uni Kuru Toga .07 pencil (but we don’t talk about those). My most reliable paper supply is a top-spiral Clairefontaine 21×14 notebook. Typically, I do not carry an ink supply until it is a few short, international cartridges. My next purchase will be a Hawaiian shirt like Drew’s!

  17. I normally have 3 pens inked up lamy safari or jinhao x750 or 450 with noodlers USS Texas ink and Twisbi precision with diamine marine and to travel I take a noodlers Charlie it has a giant ink capacity and if I lose it its a $8 pen not super expensive

  18. I, like Drew, try to stick to having only three pens inked up at a time. I feel like that way I rotate through my collection more quickly and I find it more manageable to carry them with me. Sometimes I'll go over three if I want to ink a particular nib for a certain task (I usually write with mediums and broads, but will ink a pen with a fine nib if I know I have a lot of grading of student work to do) and I'm not quite as strict as Drew about having to clean out a pen to ink up another. I do try to get back to three as quickly as I can, though, when I'm over. For carbon copy forms and crappy paper, I carry a Pilot Metropolitan rollerball as a backup and I don't count that in my three. All that goes in a Nock Sinclair.

  19. I have 3-5 pens inked up at any one time, one for my traveler's notebook and one or two on my desk at work and one or two on my desk at home. That's more than enough colours and types of pens for everyday use for me. Some drop in and out of rotation and others stay. 🙂
